Annual 4th of July Celebration

July 4, 2024

We gather annually at the Town Grove to celebrate Independence Day with family and friends.  Bring a picnic or purchase hot dogs from students in EXTRAS.  Sit in the shade of the magnificent oak trees while   Heman Allen, 1740-1778 (our own Lou Bucceri) reads the Declaration of Independence, followed by the Salisbury Band concert.

Wonders of Winter, a town-wide art event

December 2019 – February 2020

To honor Salisbury Winter Sports Association (SWSA), a volunteer organization that supports our town’s 95-year ski jumping tradition, Community Events sponsored the Wonders of Winter (WOW). This was an exhibition and benefit sale of historic and contemporary art featuring winter sports that engaged much of the community. Fifty-five works were displayed in five local businesses and at the Academy Building from December 2019-February 2020.

Wonders of Winter Magazine Cover Art Competition for HVRHS Students

Because the Wonders of Winter (WOW) exhibition included historic magazine cover art and artists from The New Yorker and Yankee Magazine, we engaged with the art department at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. Teachers created and taught classes about magazine cover art, and students painted their own covers. We mounted the students’ artwork in the WOW exhibition space at the White Hart Inn and invited the public to vote on their favorite covers. Here’s our winner. January, 2020

WWI Digitization Day

2017

Digitization Day events were held around the state offering Connecticut residents a chance to bring in the WW I photos, letters, and other keepsakes to be scanned or photographed and added to the State Library’s online archive where they will be preserved for future generations. The event was co-sponsored with the Scoville Memorial Library, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Williams-Parsons American Legion Post 70 of Salisbury.
